26 September 2007

I'm 26 now.

Monday was my 26th birthday. I can't really remember if I complained about feeling old last year when I turned 25, but it's definitely a feeling that's caught me off guard a few times over the last week or so.

I had a pretty great night on the big day, though. Got into a Jaymay show I didn't think I'd get into in Williamsburg. Really cool place. More on that here. Wandered into a bar called Duff's about a block away to try to kill some time before the show, and was greeted by Sabbath pounding out of the stereo and superduperhardcore porn on the tv behind the bar. PBR's were only $1 though, so I haven't ruled out going back someday. Here's a picture I found on Duff's MySpace page of Elijah Wood with a bartender there. Because why not.

Here's a list of some things I'd like to accomplish by this time next year:
  • Tell someone very clearly and sincerely to "piss up a rope." This is not the first time I've made this resolution, but as yet I've always been a few beats too late and I really don't want to waste it. This will be a resounding victory over my hapless foe and everyone who witnesses it will think about how awesome it was later.
  • Score a 2400 on the SAT. Yes, really. It's part of the new job.
  • Become good (like...total domination good) at some shooter video game. I think my best chance is going to be Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow. I am already getting my ass kicked up, down, left, and right in Halo 3.
  • Become a vegetarian 3-4 days a week.
  • Go to the dentist for crissakes.
  • Start playing guitar again.

  1. I hit 27 last month and was feeling awfully the same way... bleh. Congrats on the new job, by the way. I'm much the same way about standardized tests... good luck teaching it! :)

  12. Hey cutie! Cool but weird blog.
Also, Happy Birthday! I turned 21 not too long ago. Check me out @
Andypanda-charlie.blogspot.com and tell me what you think. You don't have to be sugar sweet. If you think something sucks, by all means, say so. I value your opinion. Although, I also hope that you are moved by my writing.

  20. Happy Birthday...and I hope you get to be as old as me: 50. I am just happy to still feel as young at heart as I did at 26. Try not to focus on it. It will go by quickly...so just enjoy the ride.

  21. Hmmm... remember "I can't wait till I'm 21 so I drink, and..."

Wait until you hit 50 before saying you're old. And then, you'll be saying "Oh, 50 is just the new 30."

That's my plan when I get there.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  22. Well, happy birthday then! Congratulations on making it to 26. I will probably be having a nervous breakdown when I turn 25 (not far away!), so I feel you have done a good job to only be feeling old now.

Enjoyable blog. Good luck with 27! And that whole "piss up a rope" thing... I think I should try that myself...

  23. yeah, so I spent way more than the typical 36 seconds and enjoyed every minute.
I turn 26 in 3 months and I keep swearing to all of my friends that I'm just going to lie and say I'm 25 for at least the next 5 years, hopefully I can pull that off and hopefully I can have my little yaris paid off by then too!
    Have a happy birthday darlin!

  24. Happy Belated! "Piss up a rope" is a cute phrase to tell someone off when you're in high school. You're now 27. Set higher spiritual goals for yourself. It will make the next 27 yrs soooo much better!
    May God bless you.

  25. I know you may laugh at me when I say this, but I just turned 24 on the 19th of this month... and I feel slightly old myself. I definitely know how it feels when time starts slipping away from you.

  26. birthdays are lame, you feel old no matter how old you're turning... once you hit 17 there's no going back. I'm serious.
